Home energy learning centre

Understand the whole home before choosing the hardware.

Our practical guides cover solar, batteries, heat pumps, insulation, building fabric and buyer protection. Each one finishes with checks to take into a survey or installer conversation.

Before you buy

Five checks that earn their place.

01

Get three itemised quotes

Compare panel and inverter models, usable battery capacity, scaffolding, monitoring and all electrical work.

02

Check the installer

Verify the relevant MCS certification and ask who owns the design, installation and aftercare.

03

Ask for the generation model

The quote should reflect orientation, pitch and shading—not just a national average.

04

Separate power from capacity

A large battery can still have limited output. Check continuous power and backup behaviour.

05

Read both warranties

Product and workmanship warranties cover different failures. Ask what labour and call-outs cost.

How we make money

Commercial, but clear about it.

We may earn from clearly labelled affiliate links, qualified installer introductions and advertising. Paid links and introductions are labelled next to the relevant link. Calculators and core guidance remain usable without sharing contact details. Read the disclosure.
